Mortgage brokers are being spurred by the finance watchdog to use technology, including artificial intelligence (AI), to improve services to customers. As part of its plan to build the “mortgage market of the future”, the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) outlined four areas of focus. One of these, which looks at innovation and disclosure, will increase the use of AI among brokers while preserving humans in the process, according to the FCA. It said it is “encouraging the use of data and technology, such as AI, to help brokers give better and faster advice while keeping a human touch”. Another…
“There was no commitment and I blame the players for that. It was nothing to do with me,” was how Ruud Gullit once reacted to the intrinsically upsetting experience of being beaten by Spurs. Less than three weeks later, he took “full responsibility for the results” before citing “harassment to my family in Holland” and an “intrusion” into his “private life” for his decision to step down as Newcastle manager. “When things like this happen it means I haven’t done my job properly. I’m in charge, so it’s all my fault, not the fault of anyone else,” he added. A defeat…
We are staring down the barrel of 2026. If you think the last 12 months were chaotic, strap in. The business-as-usual model for security is dead. We are moving into an era where the CISO is either a financial risk broker or irrelevant, where AI doesn’t just write emails but writes exploits, and where your right to privacy is being legislated out of existence. Here is my take on the three trends that will define the next year. 1. The federated CISO (stop counting bugs) Let’s be honest: the CISO 2.0 buzzword from 2020 is stale. In mature organisations,…
Last week, the Game Awards surprised us with not one, but two Tomb Raider-related announcements: Catalyst, a new entry in the series, and Legacy of Atlantis, a remake of the original Tomb Raider. With a legacy as long as Lara Croft’s, however, it raises some questions. First, how do these games fit in a larger timeline?GamesRadar+ got the scoop on that. “From a timeline perspective, Tomb Raider: Catalyst is set years after the events of Tomb Raider: Underworld,” game director Will Kerslake told the outlet. “With the reboot trilogy serving as her origin story, so we’re seeing a more experienced…
Marcus Rashford could return to Man Utd in the summer transfer window as Barcelona hit a ‘major problem’ over a potential permanent deal, according to reports. The Red Devils allowed Rashford to leave Old Trafford in the summer transfer window on loan to Barcelona with the Spanish side having a €30m clause to make the deal permanent at the end of the season. Rashford has contributed six goals and eight assists in 21 matches in all competitions for the Catalan giants with the England international largely impressing for Hansi Flick’s side. Man Utd are committed to selling Rashford despite his good…
Smart has released the first official pictures of the #2, the incoming successor to the Fortwo, due to arrive late next year. The electric two-seater will be Smart’s new entry model, slotting below the #1 and #3 crossovers, #5 SUV and #6 saloon. These new images, released on Monday, show early mules testing the #2’s new Electric Compact Architecture (ECA). In a first for Smart, the platform is being developed jointly by parent companies Geely in China and Mercedes-Benz in Europe, given that the car is built mainly with a focus on the European market. This differs from the rest of the line-up, which were all engineered by…
ITER, the international mega-project constructing the world’s largest experimental fusion reactor, expects thousands of scientists from partner countries to participate in experiments once the machine begins operating in the 2030s – but ITER is regulated like a nuclear-fission facility, which means remote control of plant systems is strictly prohibited. While scientists abroad cannot log into plant networks or manipulate equipment from afar, what they can do is nearly as powerful. They can receive data from ITER in near-real time, run analysis codes locally, and feed their results back to operators during an experiment. According to Denis Stepanov, computing coordinating…
Newcastle, Spurs, West Ham, David Moyes and Scott Parker receive particular kickings, but Arne Slot, Sunderland and Unai Emery deserve plenty of praise. There are also words for Malo Gusto, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Scott Parker, Wolves and, well, everyone who played at the weekend. Refresh your minds with a glance at the Premier League table and then laugh at these losers (after celebrating with the winners). Premier League winners Arne Slot If you wait long enough, Jamie Carragher and Rio Ferdinand’s perpetual and palpable desire to undress one another will always emerge as a distraction. Sunderland Outcome bias is inevitable,…
The G6 feels a bit bathtub-like to sit in – the plunging bonnet and bodysides are hidden from view from the driver’s seat behind quite a high beltline and scuttle. This, combined with the effect of that rakish roofline at the rear, makes for quite an enveloping ambience, which it builds on to modestly luxurious effect in at least one respect. This is quite a big car for the price – around 200mm longer than a Peugeot e-3008 and more than 100mm longer than a Skoda Enyaq. Most generous is second-row passenger space: even taller adults will find room to stretch…
Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has failed to expand on his cryptic comments made after Saturday’s win over Everton. After Chelsea beat Everton 2-0 in the Premier League, Maresca bizarrely claimed that “the last 48 hours have been the worst” he has experienced as Blues head coach. Maresca meltdown? “Worst 48 hours” of Chelsea career between Atalanta loss, Everton win Cryptic message creates drama for no reason Maresca clearly upset with Blues board “Since I joined the club the last 48 hours has been the worst 48 hours since I joined the club because many people didn’t support us. “Worst 48…
