The Sack Race has become pure chaos, which we guess is to be expected when the Premier League table itself is just absolute nonsense wherever you care to look. But we do once again find ourselves with a pretty clear favourite to become the fifth manager out on his ear this season, with Thomas Frank in big, big trouble after Tottenham’s latest abysmal showing in a 3-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest. Arne Slot has had a couple of wins to get him out of immediate Mo Salah-instigated danger, while Scott Parker and Daniel Farke still remain in both relegation and…
There was neither a golden sky, nor the sweet silver song of the lark, when Liverpool saw through only their second pair of consecutive wins since that sequence of spawny victories which kickstarted their season. But Arne Slot has emerged from the intense pressures of a raging storm with his standing at Anfield strengthened. The optimism can and should only be cautious after two steps in the right direction, but navigating both Inter and Brighton without conceding at a time when many felt the manager’s position was irretrievably weak is impressive. ‘Arne Slot has a week to save his job,’ Jamie Carragher…
Michael Owen has chosen to be positive about Liverpool, which is fair enough, unless you come across as delusional. Calling the Reds “the best team in the world” falls squarely into that category. Liverpool’s season has been a disaster, but their form has improved over the last five games, winning their last two to nil and drawing the other three. Liverpool: 25/26 PL season in F365 Tables 12th in table v bottom half 1 point from 7 games when conceding first 3rd in big chances created table (37) 12th in first half table Arne Slot enjoyed a stunning debut campaign at…
Former Arsenal winger Theo Walcott insists he is “concerned” about Manchester City in the title race but wouldn’t rule out another side challenging. The Gunners beat Wolves 2-1 on Saturday thanks to an injury-time own goal from Yerson Mosquera with Mikel Arteta’s side maintaining their two-point lead at the top of the Premier League. Second-placed Man City, who beat Crystal Palace 3-0 on Sunday, are one point ahead of third-placed Aston Villa with Unai Emery’s side coming into form in recent weeks. Morgan Rogers starred as Aston Villa beat West Ham 3-2 in a comeback victory with other teams now…
Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has cited three other academy players as examples to defend his decision not to play Kobbie Mainoo. Amorim discussed the form of Harry Amass, Chido Obi, and Toby Collyer ahead of the Red Devils’ Premier League clash with Bournemouth on Monday night. Man Utd: Pros and cons of playing Mainoo Pro: Keep fans happy Con: Casemiro, Fernandes working well together Pro: Secure future of promising academy star Con: Doesn’t fit 3-4-2-1 system We’re not convinced Amorim is picking his battles very wisely. He explained why Mainoo has barely featured this season: the 20-year-old is…
Underneath the new body (67mm longer and 39mm wider than before), the Clio sits on the same CMF-B platform as before, so it’s still related to the Nissan Juke, various other Renaults and their Mitsubishi clones. The only notable evolution in chassis terms is the option of 18in wheels, which are new for the Clio and, because of the bigger body, can be fitted without sacrificing sidewall height compared with the 17s. They’re standard on top-line Esprit Alpine trim. Otherwise it’s the usual passive dampers and coil springs, with front MacPherson struts leading a torsion-beam rear. Renault says it has…
The UK government has launched a Women in Tech Taskforce, designed to dismantle the current barriers faced by women working in, or wanting to work in, the tech sector. Made up of several experts from the technology ecosystem, the taskforce’s main aim is to boost economic growth, after the recent government-backed Lovelace report found the UK is suffering an annual loss of between £2bn and £3.5bn as a result of women leaving the tech sector or changing roles. The UK’s technology secretary, Liz Kendall, said: “Technology should work for everyone. That is why I have established the Women in…
We’re starting to think this Premier League season might just be wild enough to end up being the best ever, and at the absolute core of that is the fact that the answer to one of the key binary questions before a ball was kicked really does look like it might just be ‘Yes’. And that question is ‘Will Arsenal win the league or will Viktor Gyokeres be a big ol’ flop?’ It didn’t really seem feasible that it could be both of those things, but we’ve now reached the point where it might even be probable. Arsenal are favourites…
Attack, attack, attack… no, not that much… oh sh*t. A wonderful, brilliantly bonkers game of football featured eight goals, outstanding attacking football, some poor finishing, more very good finishing, horrible defending, goalkeeping blunders, two excellent free-kicks and a very welcome and long overdue formation change from Ruben Amorim to give rise to the beautiful chaos at Old Trafford. “The front four have been excellent for United, they really have,” Gary Neville said towards the end of the first half in a game in which the Old Trafford fans were treated to the most dynamic and fluent attacking display of the…
Arsenal are top of the actual table – but these standings prove why the Gunners would be right to be wary while Manchester City sniff blood… Not long ago, Arsenal were heavy favourites for the title but, though they remain the most-fancied, City are looking ominous. Having reduced the Gunners’ advantage to just two points, Pep Guardiola’s side are starting to motor, just ahead of January, when history tells us is the time they put their foot to the floor. We’ve got five tables to suggest that Arsenal should be worried. Very worried… City building momentum before New Year assault…
