Man Utd fans are a bit fed up – split between anger at Jason Wilcox and amusement about Oliver Glasner’s job audition. We also have views on Arsenal and more. E-mail us at theeditor@football365.com What happened to the caretakers? Historically, when a manager of a club was shown the door the temporary replacement was called the Caretaker Manager. In recent years this term as been replaced by Interim Manager. I don’t like this and wish for it to revert back to the old way. I will take no questions. Also, why appoint a caretaker manager at all? Bring back…
Having pressed the reset button on the X-Trail’s exterior styling, Nissan could do little but take a clean-sheet approach to the cabin. The new X-Trail’s is a sensible, usable and pleasant cockpit, but any trace of the original model’s quirky interior – centrally mounted dials, a proudly protruding centre stack, tactile and unusual seat fabrics and plenty of other imaginative touches – has now been cast aside. You might even say there’s a conspicuous lack of imagination about the interior, given that so much of what your eyes, hands, feet and backside come to rest on comes straight out of the Nissan…
Portsmouth v Arsenal in the FA Cup presented the perfect opportunity for Mikel Arteta to flex his ridiculous squad depth and give his back-up players a rare start. It was expected to be a routine victory and, while it did turn out that way, Arsenal still had to come from behind to win 4-1 at Fratton Park in front of the man himself, John Pompey. Portsmouth more than held their own early on, with Colby Bishop’s third-minute strike giving the Premier League leaders an almighty scare. Arsenal were ahead 23 minutes later, using their biggest strength to punish Pompey’s biggest…
Dacia will continue to sell the Spring alongside its upcoming Renault Twingo-based EV, making it the only firm to offer a choice of two electric city cars at once. The company’s new entry EV is due to be revealed in the coming months ahead of a public debut at the Paris motor show in September. It will go on sale by the end of the year at less than €18,000 (£15,000). Heavily based on the Twingo but with its own bespoke styling and a lower price point – mirroring the relationship between the Clio and Sandero – the new model is…
Tottenham have ‘rejected an offer’ for a defender from a European club where he is said to be a ‘prime target,’ according to a Sky Sports report. Spurs have struggled massively in recent games. In their last seven, they have won just once, and during that run the north London club has conceded 11 goals. Those games have largely involved favoured centre-back partnership Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, who would expect to keep sides at bay better than they are doing currently. Tottenham haven’t been blessed with a wealth of defensive options this season, as they clearly don’t…

Michael Carrick is reported to be the favourite to take over as Manchester United’s interim manager. The Red Devils are expected to confirm an appointment until the end of the season in the wake of Ruben Amorim’s sacking last week. Darren Fletcher has presided over the two games since: a Premier League draw at Burnley; and an FA Cup defeat to Brighton. After Sunday’s cup exit, Fletcher revealed he’d had ‘zero discussions’ with the club’s hierarchy over his own candidacy for the role, and he had been given ‘zero indications’ as to their thinking. Fletcher has been told to report…
Jack FenwickPolitical correspondentReutersThe government has identified a legal basis which it believes can be used to allow UK military to board and detain vessels in so-called shadow fleets, BBC News understands.Russia, Iran and Venezuela have all been accused of operating ships without a valid national flag to avoid sanctions on oil.Last week British armed forces assisted US troops in seizing the Marinera oil tanker, which American officials accused of carrying oil for Venezuela, Russia and Iran, breaking US sanctions. To date, no UK military personnel have boarded any vessels, but officials have spent the last few weeks exploring what measures could…
Former Chelsea man Joe Cole has suggested the Blues should have gone “really big” for Virgil van Dijk when his Liverpool contract was expiring last season, as well as some Paris Saint-Germain stars. Liverpool were in a period of massive uncertainty last season, with Mohamed Salah and Van Dijk both out of contract. Trent Alexander-Arnold was in the same position, and left for Real Madrid. Fortunately for the Reds, neither of the aforementioned pair followed him out the door, though Salah could do soon amid tensions due to his playing time this season. There were opportunities for both to leave,…
