Washington just added a new unit to its digital arsenal.

This week, President Donald J. Trump announced the formation of the US Tech Force, a new initiative designed to fast-track the adoption of artificial intelligence across every layer of the federal government.

Built to operate at the intersection of policy, code, and national infrastructure, Tech Force will support high-stakes missions for agencies like the Treasury Department and the Department of Defense, signaling a more aggressive push to embed AI directly into the machinery of government.

Trump’s latest announcement comes just days after signing an executive order meant to establish centralized regulations for AI across the US.

Thrusting AI into the spotlight

A statement on the official Tech Force website reads, in part:

“The US Tech Force is recruiting an elite corps of engineers to build the next generation of government technology. Backed by the White House, Tech Force will tackle the most complex and large-scale civic and defense challenges of our era — from administering critical financial infrastructure at the Treasury Department to advancing cutting-edge programs at the Department of Defense — and everything in between.”

The website goes on to list specific details about the newly created US Tech Force. For starters, members of Tech Force will participate in a two-year program while in direct collaboration with top technology companies. Not only will members of Tech Force receive appropriate training, but they’ll work hand-in-hand with some of the top names in technology today.

As such, Tech Force is currently seeking individuals who are skilled in software development and engineering, cybersecurity, data analytics, project management, and AI.

How to join Tech Force

The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) will be responsible for hiring for Tech Force. Interested parties need to follow a step-by-step process to be considered for a role.

  1. Submit your application to OPM
  2. Complete a technical assessment administered by OPM
  3. Schedule an interview with agency leaders
  4. Successfully pass a background check

While OPM will review all applications and resumes, final hiring decisions will be made by the individual agencies involved. Exact compensation for successful applicants has not been announced, but it’s expected to fall between $150,000 and $200,000 annually.

Additional benefits, such as health insurance, paid time-off, and performance-based awards, will also be included.

Standardizing next-gen AI

The creation of the US Tech Force is the latest move in President Trump’s bold strategy to standardize and control AI development on a national level. While there are certainly pros and cons to consider, it seems — at least on paper — that Trump is trying to position the US as the industry leader of next-gen AI.
