Trump Claims US Is ‘Nearing Completion’ of Iran War Aims Within Weeks

President Donald Trump has claimed the United States is close to completing its military objectives in Iran, telling allies the conflict’s most difficult phase is already done. “The hard part is done, so it should be easy,” Trump said, urging allied nations to independently secure access to the Strait of Hormuz. The comments came as senior Democrats sharply criticised the administration’s approach.

Bipartisan Criticism Grows in Washington

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer was particularly scathing, writing on X: “Donald Trump’s actions in Iran will be considered one of the greatest policy blunders in the history of our country, failing to articulate objectives, alienating allies, and ignoring the kitchen table problems Americans are facing. He is completely unfit to be Commander-in-Chief and the whole world knows it.”

Trump’s claim that US war aims in Iran are “nearing completion” has drawn sharp criticism from Democratic leaders, who called the strategy poorly defined and diplomatically damaging.

What Comes Next

Amid the uncertainty, the UK has stepped in diplomatically. Yvette Cooper is convening a virtual summit on the Strait of Hormuz — though the US is not expected to attend. The situation remains fluid, with the President oscillating between demanding Iran allow tanker passage and telling allies to handle it themselves.
