ClickUp has officially released ClickUp 4.0, a major overhaul the company says is built to end “work sprawl” and bring every part of the modern workday into a single, connected experience.
The launch marks what the company calls a new era focused on craft, quality, and the convergence of software, people, and AI.
In the announcement, Dean Phillips, ClickUp’s Head of Product Strategy, described how much time workers lose every day moving between systems. He wrote that teams lose hours to “AI sprawl,” “context sprawl,” and “app sprawl,” and warned that this leads to a massive global productivity cost.
ClickUp says the new release brings together tasks, documents, chat, meetings, calendars, and AI into one tightly unified space. The company describes ClickUp 4.0 as the “world’s first Converged AI Platform,” designed to remove the fragmentation that forces teams to jump between apps throughout their workday.
“Software is converging — we always knew it would. And it’s about time, because work sprawl is the silent killer of productivity,” said Zeb Evans, ClickUp Founder and CEO. “Teams are drowning in disconnected tools and workflows, losing precious time and energy just trying to keep up. With ClickUp 4.0, we’re putting an end to that chaos. We believe the future of work is convergence — where you buy all software and AI from one platform.”
Features designed for focus
The update introduces several features designed to keep everything in one place. A new “personalized navigation” system allows users to customize their sidebar, bringing tasks, docs, and whiteboards into a unified view. Phillips explains that this change “marks the end of the toggle tax,” referring to the energy lost when moving between tabs.
AI plays a massive role in this release. The platform now features “ambient AI agents.” These are intelligent assistants that run in the background to handle repetitive work or answer questions without waiting for a user to prompt them. Additionally, the new “ClickUp Brain” can search for answers across connected apps and even transcribe meetings, turning spoken discussions into actionable tasks instantly.
For managers, a new “teams hub” provides a clear view of who is working on what, helping to balance workloads without constant follow-up meetings. Individuals also get a “personal planner” that uses AI to automatically block out time on their calendars for high-priority work.
Availability and future updates
Phillips notes that the company has moved from a phase of pure speed to one of “obsessive craft and uncompromising quality.” While ClickUp 4.0 is available immediately for all users, the company is already teasing upcoming features. These include the ability to nest folders within folders and to add new custom fields tailored to specific task types.
