According to reports, Manchester United are ‘in talks’ over re-signing Mason Greenwood, while an update has emerged regarding Bruno Fernandes. Greenwood progressed through the ranks at Man Utd and was expected to be a key player for his boyhood club for most of his career. However, Man Utd had no choice but to offload Greenwood after he faced charges relating to attempted rape and assault. The Crown Prosecution Service eventually discontinued the case against Greenwood as the withdrawal of key witnesses significantly reduced the chances of a conviction. Man Utd also conducted an internal investigation into the matter and they…
When you buy an old car, it’s easy to get pulled into various internet rabbit holes – buying guides, common problems, popular upgrades, that sort of thing. But I’ve set foot in a particularly deep and magnetic one-one to rival QAnon and Pizzagate: numberplates. Modern UK plates are sensible and a bit boring. There’s only one legal font and the first two pairs of numbers and letters tell you roughly where and when the car was first registered. Back before 2001, though, fonts were a free-for-all. There was a vaguely standard one, but I’ve seen everything short of hieroglyphs. I’ve…
Image generated by Google Gemini Social media sites succeed in part thanks to platform designs that keep people on the apps, but who should be held responsible when those designs allegedly harm young users? Snap’s last-minute decision to settle a social media addiction lawsuit may have saved it from the consequences of undergoing a closely watched trial, but no social media company can escape the effects of the more extensive legal fight that could transform how platforms operate. The lawsuit, filed in California by a 19-year-old woman identified as K.G.M., accuses Snapchat and other major social media apps of using…
The UK government has begun testing of a digital driving licence – the highest profile official document so far to be digitised as part of the roll-out of the Gov.uk digital wallet. The plan for a mobile app-based driving licence was announced in January last year, with the aim of providing it as a digital credential that could also be used for age verification online. At the time, then technology secretary Peter Kyle said the functionality would be available by the end of 2024, but the timeline has since slipped. In a blog post, the Government Digital Service (GDS)…

South Africa’s Police Minister Firoz Cachalia has said that the security forces are not yet able to defeat deadly criminal gangs, in a stark admission that underscores the scale of the country’s crime crisis. Gang violence, alongside robberies, accounts for many murders in South Africa, which has one of the world’s highest homicide rates.Cachalia said gang violence had become increasingly complex, especially in the Eastern Cape and Western Cape provinces, requiring new strategies beyond traditional policing.”I do not believe that we are currently in a position to defeat these gangs,” the minister told journalists on Wednesday. South Africa, the continent’s…
Japan has suspended operations at the world’s largest nuclear power plant, hours after its restart, its operator has said.An alarm sounded “during reactor-start-up procedures” at Kashiwazaki-Kariwa in Tokyo but the reactor remained “stable”, Tokyo Electric Power Company (Tepco) spokesperson Takashi Kobayashi said.Reactor number six restarted on Wednesday a day later than planned due to an alarm malfunction – the first at the plant to be turned on since the 2011 Fukashima disaster.Japan shut down all of its 54 reactors after a 9.0 magnitude earthquake triggered a meltdown at its Fukashima plant 15 years ago, causing one of the worst nuclear…
According to reports, Chelsea face missing out on Rennes star Jeremy Jacquet, who has also been linked with Arsenal, due to the defender’s valuation. In recent days, it has become clear that the Blues are in the market for a new centre-back to be an upgrade on their current options. Chelsea have a host of up-and-coming talents at their disposal in various positions, but their lack of elite options at centre-back, goalkeeper or up front are in the way of them winning the Premier League and/or Champions League. Liam Rosenior’s side were always likely to target signings in these positions…
