Europe’s two largest quantum computing firms announced plans to go public on the US stock market just as the European Commission was finalising urgent plans to stop deep tech firms selling to overseas investors. The launch of hurried bids by Finland’s IQM and France’s Pasqal to raise the money they need to make quicker progress in developing viable quantum computer systems coincided with the start of another urgent programme, by the US Defence Advanced Research Project Agency (Darpa). The programme pledged to prove an alternative quantum computing architecture was feasible before leading quantum firms wasted any more time and…

The Banana Ball World Tour is coming to Roku. The platform to stream free content from the Banana Ball Championship League. This, of course, includes Savannah Bananas games. If that last paragraph didn’t make a lick of sense to you, here’s a primer. The Savannah Bananas are a wacky baseball team, playing something called Banana Ball. The team has been called the Harlem Globetrotters of baseball, and that’s a fairly apt name. Players dress in funny costumes, step into ridiculously tall stilts, perform dance routines and do all kinds of things that could frustrate traditional baseball fans but tend to delight…

JBL introduced two new headphones to its Live series lineup and both are fighting to live up to expectations. Don’t get me wrong, the JBL Live 780NC and 680NC are both a solid set of cans, but in a sea of noise-cancelling headphones, one of them definitely has more appeal. The biggest differences between these two headphones are the over-ear and on-ear cups, and surprisingly, their audio quality. Let’s get into what does and doesn’t make them so special.JBLThe JBL Live 780NC are a solid set of headphones that are easily lost in the sea of mid-range cans. It’s enough…

While the billion-dollar question is about when quantum computing will become commercially viable, among the problems being tackled at the moment is how to make the most of current technology, where quantum devices experience a high error rate. Although the industry can produce machines with hundreds of physical qubits, the actual number of logical, error-free qubits available in the latest quantum computers remains very small. As the technology improves, researchers are investigating how to get the best out of today’s noisy quantum computers and considering the types of problems that quantum devices with large numbers of logical qubits could…
