Among the many surprises Cameron Peters has up his sleeve is that although his 2002-reg Audi S8 is classed as Euro 3 for emissions purposes, it is, he tells me, exempt from London’s ULEZ charge. Generally speaking, only petrol cars certified as being Euro 4 and above (the classification was introduced in 2005) satisfy the NOx emissions standard used to determine the charge, making them exempt. However, so long as it meets the NOx standard, a Euro 3 car is also exempt. Cameron’s 23-year-old Euro 3 S8 is just such a vehicle. Transport for London’s ULEZ registration checker confirms it.…
Indie game studio Coldblood announced today that its debut project Neverway has been given a release window of October 2026. Billed as “nightmarish life-sim RPG,” this is going right to the top of my spooky season game queue. It has a cozy-sounding premise, with protagonist Fiona starting a new life on an island, but things take a surreal turn when she becomes the immortal herald for a dead god. She’ll be building relationships and making friends one minute and coping with psychological horrors the next. This game has been on our radar since it was introduced at last year’s Triple-I Initiative…
Last year’s Triple-i Initiative showcase included the announcement teaser for Neverway, a game that’s part action, part life sim, and part moody, existential horror. This year, the game returned to the event, bringing two of the most exciting pieces of news a showcase trailer can bring: the game has a release window, and you can try it out for free on Steam today. You can watch the latest trailer below. The game follows a young, profoundly depressed woman named Fiona who moves to a remote island to become a farmer and live the simple life. But try as she might to…
Amazon Leo (formerly Project Kuiper) will launch mid-2026, according to Andy Jassy. On Wednesday, the Amazon CEO dropped the news in his annual letter to shareholders. The company says Leo will support download speeds up to 1 Gbps. By comparison, Starlink’s download speeds typically range between 45 and 280 Mbps.Jassy didn’t specify whether the mid-2026 launch date will include consumer availability. (An Amazon spokesperson told Engadget that the company doesn’t have more detail to add right now.) We do know that “select enterprise customers” began testing the high-speed satellite service late last year. Delta and JetBlue have already signed on…
Ever since I played 1000xResist (and gave it a glowing review upon Game Informer’s relaunch), I have been eager to see what its developer, Sunset Visitor, would do next. Today, the indie studio finally pulled the curtain back on its next project, Prove You’re Human, a dark sci-fi narrative adventure game where you interact with the world using a CAPTCHA mechanic. Take a look at the reveal trailer below. The game, like 1000xResist, combines a wide variety of visual and narrative elements that sound overly complex at first, but seem to gel well in the trailer. In a conversation with Remy Siu…
source: Zhiyue/Unsplash Apple has issued a warning to its global user base as a sophisticated new wave of social engineering scams targets iPhone owners. These attacks, which are currently surging across the US and Europe, aren’t trying to break into your phone with code; they are trying to break into your bank account by tricking you into a state of panic. The scam usually starts with a simple, official-looking text message. It might claim there has been a suspicious charge on your Apple Pay or that your account has been locked. According to a report by ConsumerAffairs, the trick’s effectiveness…
The Royal Navy has deterred Russian submarines identified in the vicinity of undersea cables and other critical under water infrastructure. A Russian attack submarine and specialist submarines from Russian’s Main Directorate for Deep-Sea Research (Gugi), were involved in the operation. The vessels were designed to survey undersea infrastructure during peacetime and to sabotage it in conflict, defence secretary John Healey said today. The Ministry of Defence said that it would not confirm the nature of the cables in the vicinity of the Russian submarines. But Healey said that undersea communications cables were essential for digital communications that underpin international…
Last month, I visited Warframe developer Digital Extremes’ office in London, Ontario, of Canada, to hang out with the team behind Soulframe for a couple of days, interview its various discipline leads, and learn about this studio’s first game in nearly a decade. It was during those initial interviews that I learned Soulframe was a game Digital Extremes committed to making before asking its “corporate overlords,” which is Tencent, the Chinese-based megagiant publisher that acquired Leyou, the company that owned a majority stake in the developer. In the words of Digital Extremes CEO Steve Sinclair, the team begged for forgiveness (instead…
GoPro CEO Nick Woodman. Image: Josh Edelson While tech layoffs are increasingly tied to AI, GoPro is cutting nearly a quarter of its workforce for a very different reason. In its third round of layoffs in just two years, the company plans to cut 145 of its 631 employees, according to a Form 8-K filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Unlike many recent workforce reductions driven by aggressive AI investment, GoPro’s move signals something more old-fashioned—and more concerning: a company under financial pressure. The action camera maker says the cuts are part of a broader restructuring effort expected…
Europe’s two largest quantum computing firms announced plans to go public on the US stock market just as the European Commission was finalising urgent plans to stop deep tech firms selling to overseas investors. The launch of hurried bids by Finland’s IQM and France’s Pasqal to raise the money they need to make quicker progress in developing viable quantum computer systems coincided with the start of another urgent programme, by the US Defence Advanced Research Project Agency (Darpa). The programme pledged to prove an alternative quantum computing architecture was feasible before leading quantum firms wasted any more time and…
