Verpraet reckons the Mondeo aces Parry-Jones’s famous 20-metre test, because the driving position is great and the controls are easy and intuitive – both things you notice before you’re out of first gear. “It can’t help feeling old because of the shape, colour, materials, low waistline and vast glass area,” he added, “but you can row it along in ordinary traffic and feel very satisfied.” Prior is a bit worried for the Mondeo, though. “It’s showing little sign of moving from the old banger phase and into its classic time,” he said. “I’m not even sure the Sierra, its predecessor, has…

Amazon’s satellite-based internet service, Leo, will enter , so says company CEO Andy Jassy. Writing in his annual letter, Jassy claimed Leo would offer download speeds of up to 1Gbps, far more than what Starlink presently offers. Sadly, Amazon declined to offer any more details about what that mid-2026 service would look like. But given select partners have already been kicking Leo’s tyres for a while, we can only hope. The mega-retailer is making some grand promises, including faster up and download speeds, cheaper cost and direct integration with Amazon’s other products. Of course, the company can also sell itself on…

But the really important differentiator between the Super-N and the E is that the newer car has a job to do in bolstering Honda’s EV sales mix. The E was a halo product – a premium-leaning, tech-heavy flagbearer for the Japanese firm’s bold electric age, and one that was pitched well clear of the mainstream at around £37,000. It was an eyebrow-raising list price even before you consider it had a shorter range than nearly every other electric car on the market. “In terms of what it will do for us, the price point will be very important,” says Adamson…

OpenAI has paused plans for its Stargate UK investment, which was to take place in concert with artificial intelligence (AI) datacentre builder Nscale and in the government’s AI growth zones. The Microsoft-backed company has cited concerns about rising energy costs as well as the regulatory environment in the UK, particularly in copyright. Affected locations – should OpenAI’s “pause” become permanent – are in the government’s north eastern AI growth zone centred on north Tyneside and Blyth in Northumberland. According to an Nscale announcement in September 2025, Nscale, OpenAI and Nvidia agreed to establish Stargate UK as an infrastructure platform…

The noise of the engine tends to sound like someone is undertaking a heavy DIY session a couple of houses away and it is especially noticeable because everything else is so quiet. The curious petrolhead within me is intrigued by the way the car shifts between the gears that its series-parallel hybrid set-up allows it to create, but if I was less interested in such things, it would drive me to distraction.   I find the adaptive cruise control irritating too – though this is something that annoys me in almost everything I drive. When approaching slower-moving traffic, you have…

Hyundai has revealed the radical Venus and Earth concepts as a showcase of its plans for a new range of bespoke electric cars for the Chinese market. The rakish Venus saloon and its rugged Earth SUV sibling preview a new China-specific EV line-up that is “tailored to local customers”, Hyundai said – and distinct from the Ioniq models the company sells in other global markets. To emphasise this distinction, Hyundai’s EV models in China will be named after planets – like the two concept cars – rather than taking numerical designations according to their size, like the Ioniq 3, 5,…

Google has removed popular psychological horror game Doki Doki Literature Club! from the Play Store. According to Dan Salvato, who led its development team, and publisher Serenity Forge, Google told them the visual novel was removed because it violated its Terms of Service in its depiction of sensitive themes. The game is “widely celebrated for portraying mental health in a way that meaningfully connects deeply with players around the world,” they said in their announcement. Its free version, which came out first, has been downloaded at least 30 million times, while the paid “Plus” version has had at least one…

The GLB’s practicality comes as a welcome surprise. You don’t really expect an SUV of this size to offer genuine, adult-appropriate, three-row passenger space, but the GLB gets creditably close. Three average-height adults could sit in it, one behind the other, comfortably enough, even if you would inevitably feel more hemmed in sitting in row three. The second-row seats slide forwards and back by 140mm in order to juggle space effectively. Access to the third row is tight, as ever, but not problematic. Those familiar with smaller seven-seat SUVs won’t be expecting much boot space to be left once you do…

Would a Jaguar still feel like a Jaguar if you sat in it bent-legged and meerkat-like at the wheel – as many SUV drivers are used to doing? For now, the question remains unanswered, because the F-Pace’s driving position is entirely unlike that.Although the car’s hip point is quite high, you board it very conveniently rather than dropping down into the seat and your view out is good. But you sit with arms and legs outstretched, surrounded by high-rising door cards and fascia, a relatively high transmission tunnel console, slanting A-pillars and a fairly slim glasshouse. So the F-Pace doesn’t seem…

Electric SUV siblings now start from around £35,000 – but lowered prices cause worry in used car market Ford has cut the price of the Explorer and Capri electric SUVs by around £5000 just a week after improving standard equipment levels and extending their ranges. However, industry insiders have told Autocar that they’re worried the move could have a knock-on impact on used car values, not just for Ford EVs but across the market. The price of the Explorer has dropped by between £4035 and £4800, depending on spec, bringing the starting price down to £35,185 for the rear-driven 58kWh Style model.…
