Apple might be looking to put a computer on your lapel.

The tech giant is reportedly developing a compact, AI-powered wearable pin that is roughly the size of an AirTag, according to a report from The Information, as cited by multiple outlets.

The pin is described as a thin, flat, circular device with an aluminum and glass shell. It’s expected to include two cameras — one standard and one wide-angle — along with three microphones, a built-in speaker, and a physical control button. Wireless charging, similar to the Apple Watch, is also part of the design.

The device is still in early development, but if it ever reaches the market, it could arrive around 2027. However, several reports caution that the project could also be canceled before launch.

Designed to see, hear, and talk back

The hardware setup suggests the pin would act as an “eyes and ears” companion for Apple’s AI systems.

Reports say the cameras could capture photos and videos of the wearer’s surroundings, while the microphones would pick up voice commands and ambient sound. The speaker would allow the device to respond with audio feedback.

While the device is labeled an “AI pin,” there is still no clear explanation of what users would do with it. The reports offer detailed hardware descriptions but almost no information about the product’s real-world purpose or use cases. If the pin ever launches, Siri is expected to play a central role. Several outlets link the project to Apple’s broader push to turn Siri into a chatbot-style assistant in future versions of iOS.

Apple plans to rely on Google’s Gemini models to power this next-generation Siri, internally codenamed “Campos,” which is expected to debut alongside iOS 27.

Learning from the ghost of Humane in a crowded and risky market

Apple would be entering a space that has already proven difficult. Humane’s AI Pin, released in 2024 by former Apple employees, struggled with bugs and poor reception before its servers were shut down in early 2025. Rabbit’s R1 and other screenless AI gadgets have also failed to gain traction.

Still, competition is heating up. OpenAI, working with former Apple design chief Jony Ive, is reportedly preparing its own AI hardware. Meta already sells AI-powered Ray-Ban smart glasses, and Amazon is experimenting with AI wearables like the Bee bracelet.

Privacy looms large

One of the biggest questions surrounding the Apple pin is privacy. A wearable device with cameras and microphones raises obvious concerns, especially for a company that has built much of its brand around user data protection.

Observers note that Apple would need to clearly explain how data is handled and when recordings occur if it wants to avoid the backlash faced by earlier AI wearables.

So far, Apple has not commented publicly on the project. Meanwhile, if the project survives the development lab, we could see the official reveal at a future Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC).
