“Atrocious” Tottenham Hotspur will be beaten “comfortably” by Liverpool this weekend, says Arsenal legend Paul Merson. Champions Liverpool face Thomas Frank’s side at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday evening and could finish the weekend fourth in the Premier League…or 10th. Spurs, meanwhile, could fall all the way from 11th to 15th if results go against them. Liverpool will beat Spurs ‘comfortably’ – Merson Former Arsenal midfielder Merson thinks that will happen, as he has predicted a win for Liverpool, alongside Bournemouth and Brentford victories, and a draw between Newcastle United and Chelsea. Arne Slot’s side have been backed to…
Think of Autocar’s annual Britain’s Best Driver’s Car (BBDC) test and your mind will rightly project visions of Porsche 911s, V12-fired Ferraris and scaffold-like lightweights. But once in a blue moon, something entirely ordinary slips into the field. Not even a GTI, ST or anything to that effect, but common-or-garden machinery that lines the nation’s streets. Read: Britain’s Best Driver’s Car 2025 The first two such cars came in 1991, the contest’s third edition. The Peugeot 605 SVE 24 and BMW 318i joined our group on account of their terrific manners in regular road use. Other contenders included the Honda…

While our road testers were rigorously testing the latest metal for Britain’s Best Driver’s Car 2025, photographer Jack Harrison and I decided to mark the occasion in our own way – by reuniting two former BBDC contenders from a very different era. Last year I bought a 2005 Renault Clio 182 Trophy, and have spent the past year returning it to factory order by refitting its trick Sachs remote reservoir dampers, restoring the alloys and upgrading the interior. Read: Britain’s Best Driver’s Car 2025 Jack, meanwhile, recently acquired a very tidy 2004 Toyota MR2, which has been lightly fettled with…
A Paris court has rejected an effort by the French government to suspend the website of fast-fashion giant Shein in response to it selling childlike sex dolls on its platform. The court said the request for a three-month suspension was “disproportionate” – but did order age verification for the sale of adult products. The action against Shein was taken after France’s consumer watchdog last month reported it to authorities for selling “sex dolls with a childlike appearance” and weapons. Shein said its priority remained protecting French consumers and ensuring compliance. The court acknowledged the seriousness of selling the childlike sex dolls and weapons…
A Saturday-heavy weekend of Premier League action that nevertheless looks full of potential gifts for us all. Sunday’s one game looks a doozie, between title-chasing Aston Villa and consistency-seeking Manchester United, but it can’t quite take Game to watch honours. That has to go to Tottenham v Liverpool, a fixture that absolutely never fails to deliver one way or another. Most recently what it’s delivered has been goals. Mainly, it should be said, Liverpool ones. Elsewhere you’ve got another fascinating looking clash between Newcastle and Chelsea, while it’s all eyes on the teamsheets to see how Mikel Arteta has used…
Pastures new beckoned for this year’s Britain’s Best Driver’s Car shootout – and that isn’t something we’ve been able to say very often. There are few UK motorsport circuits that BBDC hasn’t visited before – mostly because this annual gathering of the year’s best new enthusiast’s cars, for a hedonistic few days of road and track driving, has such a long history. Since the first running of ‘Handling Day’ in 1989 at Castle Combe in Wiltshire, we’ve been from Goodwood to Oulton Park, from Brands Hatch to Cadwell Park, west to Anglesey and north to Croft. Few corners of our sceptred…
The ousted chair of Ben & Jerry’s has accused the company which owns the brand of threatening to launch a public smear campaign against her. Anuradha Mittal, who chaired Ben & Jerry’s independent board for seven years, told the BBC that Magnum had threatened to publish “defamatory statements” about her if she did not step down from her role.It relates to an increasingly bitter dispute between the Vermont-based activist ice cream maker and its owner over the independence of the board and its freedom to pursue its social missions.Magnum said in its view Mittal “no longer met the criteria to…
According to reports, Liverpool and Mohamed Salah have a “gentleman’s agreement” over a future transfer after the two parties reached a “compromise”… It remains to be seen whether Salah will still be a Liverpool player by the end of next month’s transfer window as he has butted heads with head coach Arne Slot recently. Salah’s form has massively declined this term and he has started Liverpool’s last four Premier League games on the bench. After the 3-3 draw at Leeds United, he remarkably claimed he had been “thrown under the bus” by the club and he had no relationship with…
Watch: Putin tells BBC Western leaders deceived RussiaRussian President Vladimir Putin has said there will be no more wars after Ukraine, if Russia is treated with respect – and dismissed claims that Moscow is planning to attack European countries as “nonsense”.In a televised event lasting almost four and a half hours, he was asked by the BBC’s Steve Rosenberg whether there would be new “special military operations” – Putin’s term for the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.”There won’t be any operations if you treat us with respect, if you respect our interests just as we’ve always tried to respect yours,” he…
