Defence Secretary John Healey meeting Palantir CEO Alex Karp Image: Gov.UK UK MPs are calling for tougher checks on Palantir’s government contracts following reports that Swiss authorities repeatedly rejected the company over security concerns. The concerns stem from a two-part investigation published this month by the Swiss magazine Republik, working with the research collective WAV. The investigation shows that Palantir spent seven years trying to sell its data-analysis software to Swiss federal agencies and the Swiss army and was turned away at least nine times, largely over fears about data access and reputational risk. Those findings have now landed in…
As we hurtle towards the end of the year, the shadow of CES hovers on the horizon. Tech’s biggest annual conference is starting in just under two weeks, and we already know some of the products and announcements that could be in store. The CES 2026 show floor is officially open from January 6 through 9, but the fun kicks off with events on Sunday January 4 and a host of press conferences on Monday. As always, product demos, announcements and networking will be happening at the Las Vegas Convention Center and other hotels all over the city. As usual,…
Soutik BiswasIndia correspondentHindustan Times via Getty ImagesProviding unskilled public work, the jobs scheme has become a backbone of rural livelihoods in IndiaIndia is home to one of the world’s most ambitious social programmes – a jobs guarantee that gives every rural household the legal right to paid work.Launched in 2005 by a Congress party government, the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) entitled every rural household to demand up to 100 days of paid manual work each year at a statutory minimum wage. This mattered in a country where 65% of 1.4 billion people live in rural areas and nearly half…
Man Utd captain Bruno Fernandes is likely to miss the Red Devils’ next six matches, according to reports, after picking up an injury against Aston Villa. Fernandes was taken off at half-time as Man Utd lost 2-1 to third-placed Aston Villa on Sunday with Morgan Rogers scoring a brilliant brace either side of a Matheus Cunha equaliser. The Portugal international pulled up towards the end of the half with a suspected hamstring injury and confirmed to members of the public on Monday evening that he wouldn’t be fit for the Boxing Day clash against Newcastle. The Sun claim that Man…
New cars just keep getting more expensive. That’s why many drivers take advantage of company car and salary sacrifice schemes offered by their employers. The latter especially can be quite the money saver, because the car payments come out pre-tax. Of course, there are caveats. You will never actually own the car outright, and you must pay benefit-in-kind tax. But when compared with PCP, HP or private leasing, these schemes can be vastly cheaper. That’s why last year more than a million new cars sold in the UK went through them. It’s therefore a no-brainer for car makers to ensure…
Want to see a dead body? I present to you the Xbox. After a subdued launch at the height of the COVID pandemic in 2020, the Xbox Series X quickly lost the fight against the PlayStation 5. Microsoft simply couldn’t deliver enough compelling games, despite some huge acquisitions, while Sony leaned on its goodwill from the PS4 era and a handful of desirable exclusives. As prices rose due to supply chain issues and the Trump administration’s volatile tariff scheme, there was even less of a reason to get an Xbox (even the cheaper Series S). When I re-reviewed the Series…
Chris BaraniukTechnology ReporterThe Washington Post via Getty ImagesData centres can’t function without cooling systemsThey work 24/7 at high speeds and get searingly hot – but data centre computer chips get plenty of pampering. Some of them basically live at the spa. “We’ll have fluid that comes up and [then] shower down, or trickle down, onto a component,” says Jonathan Ballon, chief executive at liquid cooling firm Iceotope. “Some things will get sprayed.”In other cases, the industrious gizmos recline in circulating baths of fluid, which ferries away the heat they generate, enabling them to function at very high speeds, known as…
Former Man Utd defender Paul Parker has questioned whether the Red Devils “sent anyone to actually watch” Benjamin Sesko play before signing him. The Red Devils paid out around £74m to sign Sesko from RB Leipzig in the summer transfer window as Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS backed Ruben Amorim. Man Utd spent almost all of their budget on attacking players with Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo also joining, while Senne Lammens and Diego Leon were the other summer arrivals. Sesko has struggled to adapt to the Premier League and playing for Man Utd, with the Slovenia international contributing two…
The final Jaguar F-Pace has rolled off JLR’s production line in Solihull, officially marking the end of the British brand’s combustion models. UK market sales of the SUV ended last November, but it continued for markets including the USA, Australia, China, Europe and more. It means that, officially, Jaguar now no longer makes any models for any markets anywhere in the world. This F-Pace is also the final ICE car Jaguar will produce given that the brand will present the first model in its reinvented electric range, a production version of the Type 00 concept, in the middle of next…
Apple is making it a little easier to use third-party devices with iPhones in order to comply with Europe’s Digital Market Act (DMA), MacRumors reported. For iOS 26.3, Apple’s devices will support third-party proximity pairing and notifications in Europe only, according to the latest beta notes. That will make it a bit easier to connect devices like Sony headphones or receive notifications from an iPhone on Wear OS smartwatches — provided manufacturers support the new feature.”The DMA creates new opportunities for developers to bring to market innovative products and services in Europe,” an EU spokesperson told The Wall Street Journal.…
