Jonathan JosephsBusiness reporter, BBC NewsAFP via Getty ImagesTrade and tariffs will be on the agenda when Trump and China’s Xi next meet in AprilPresident Trump’s favourite word is tariffs. He reminded the world of that in his pre-Christmas “address to the nation”.With the world still unwrapping the tariffs “gift” from the first year of his second term in office, he said they were bringing jobs, higher wages and economic growth to the US.That is hotly contested. What is less debatable is that they’ve refashioned the global economy, and will continue to do so into 2026.The International Monetary Fund (IMF) says…

A keyboard computer has always been on my wishlist — that is, a computer where the entire machine was stuffed into a keyboard. Perhaps I caught a glimpse of the Commodore 64 at an impressionable age, but regardless, the idea has always been intriguing to me. At CES 2026, HP is bringing that concept back with the new EliteBoard G1a, which is dubbed a “Next Gen AI PC.”It’s an IT administrator’s dream: It looks a typical desktop keyboard, but it has the full power of a Copilot+ AI PC inside. You can equip it with Ryzen 5 or 7 CPUs…
Reality television star Spencer Pratt has launched a campaign for mayor of Los Angeles, vowing to “expose the system”.His longshot bid for city hall comes on the anniversary of a wildfire that destroyed his home and became one of California’s most destructive blazes on record. Pratt, 42, made the announcement while speaking at a “They Let Us Burn” rally organised by residents who lost houses in the Palisades Fire. The protest marked a year since the fire ignited in the Pacific Palisades on 7 January 2025, tearing through the wealthy coastal community tucked between the Santa Monica Mountains and the…
President Donald Trump has called for US defence spending to be increased to $1.5tn (£1.1tn) in 2027 for what he called “these very troubled and dangerous times”.That would be more than 50% higher than this year’s $901bn budget, which was approved by Congress in December.”This will allow us to build the “Dream Military” that we have long been entitled to and, more importantly, that will keep us SAFE and SECURE, regardless of foe,” Trump said on social media on Wednesday. In separate posts, the president said he would crack down on payouts to bosses and shareholders of major US defence contractors…
Samsung Display is the part of its giant parent company that makes OLEDs, LCDs and other screens for both Samsung devices and anyone else that can afford them. This year, it’s going all-in on OLEDs of the future. And that meant things like foldable displays with invisible creases, robots hurling basketballs at supertough OLED panels, and OLED screens packed into baffling form factors for no good reason. Creases Samsung Display The “seamless” foldable display that might be a part of a future foldable iPhone disappeared from the booth during our tour, reappearing when it was time to leave. (This is…

Russian attacks left Ukraine’s southeastern regions of Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia almost entirely without power, the country’s energy ministry said on Wednesday night. Critical infrastructure was “operating on reserve power”, it said in a statement on Telegram, while officials said water supplies and the internet were also disrupted. Russia has recently intensified attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, aimed at paralysing power supplies during a harsh winter.”Ukraine’s energy system is under enemy attacks every day, and energy workers are operating in extremely difficult conditions to provide people with light and heat,” Ukraine’s Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko wrote on Telegram.”Deteriorating weather conditions put…
Kobbie Mainoo and Dan Ashworth might have celebrated after Ruben Amorim was sacked by Man Utd, but Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Jason Wilcox are in trouble. Amorim was finally shown the door after 63 largely forgettable games in charge at Old Trafford, with the beneficiaries and casualties of his demise fairly easy to delineate. The winners from Ruben Amorim’s sacking Kobbie Mainoo When Amorim referred to Mainoo as “the future of Manchester United” in December, he added that the England international simply “needs to wait for his chance and everything can change in football in two days”. Mainoo, at…
Apple announced today JPMorgan Chase will be the new issuer for the Apple Card. The official news arrived shortly after The Wall Street Journal reported that the two businesses had reached a deal regarding Apple’s credit card service.
