News that an estimated 30,000 employees are losing their jobs at Oracle comes at a time that the company is claiming to have $533bn in orders to fulfil. As of May 2025, the company had a workforce of around 165 million employees. Its latest quarterly earnings filing shows that the Oracle expects revenue of $67bn and capital expenditures of $50bn for 2026, which it stated is unchanged from its previous financial guidance. Abu Dhabi takes a decisive step in global artificial intelligence (AI) with Falcon Perception, a multimodal model enabling machines to efficiently see, read and interpret the physical world. Developed by the Technology Innovation Institute (TII), the applied research arm of the emirate’s Advanced Technology Research Council, Falcon Perception expands the UAE’s AI ecosystem by combining vision and language capabilities. Rising fuel prices, sparked by the war in the Persian Gulf, and falling energy costs have led to a spike in sales for used EV, dealers have told Autocar. In July 2025, UK secretary of state for science, innovation and technology Peter Kyle said: “We forecast that the UK will need at least 6GW of AI [artificial intelligence]-capable datacentre capacity by 2030.” As things stand, that target will likely not be met, with UK datacentre capacity on course to total 4.9GW by 2030 given the current planning status of many projects. Current UK datacentre capacity is around 1.6GW. If we assume a big chunk of that is not “AI-capable” then 6GW of “AI-capable datacentre capacity by 2030” looks a way off. That figure – 4.9GW by 2030 –…
High-risk individuals have been urged to take steps to reduce their exposure to social engineering attacks against encrypted messaging apps, including Signal, WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger. The UK’s National Cyber Security Centre, part of GCHQ, warned that politicians, academics, journalists and lawyers are at greater risk from social engineering attacks by nation-state-backed hackers attempting to gain access to messaging services. Government officials have also been targeted by China, the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) – which hacked the encrypted emails of a former head of MI6 – and Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The NCSC’s alert follows warnings…
