HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) has chosen SAP S/4Hana in the cloud, using the supplier’s Rise pathway, for an overhaul of its core tax and revenue systems. The UK government department is moving from an SAP on-premise enterprise resource planning (ERP) system to the supplier’s more recent ERP, in the cloud, adopting the “Rise with SAP” programme to support the modernisation of its Enterprise Tax Management Platform (ETMP), according to SAP. SAP stated this will give HMRC staff greater confidence in real-time analysis and reporting, while also supporting a more responsive and transparent experience for taxpayers. The deal is…
While it’s important to stay informed about what’s going on in the world, endlessly scrolling through your social media feeds and absorbing what’s likely to be a largely negative influx of information can’t be great for your mental wellbeing. Perhaps with an eye on stopping you from doomscrolling, developer Lyra Rebane created Xikipedia, a social media-style feed of Wikipedia entries. The web app algorithmically displays info from Simple Wikipedia. “It is made as a demonstration of how even a basic non-[machine learning] algorithm with no data from other users can quickly learn what you engage with to suggest you more similar…
He believes the monarch has managed to distance itself from the imminent court case, with the argument that the princess’s son is a private citizen, but that is not the case for Mette-Marit: “She’s never a private citizen, she’s always the crown princess and what she’s doing in a private capacity or official capacity it will always redirect back to Norway – or ricochet.”
Crystal Palace and Jean-Philippe Mateta have been dealt a blow as his proposed move to AC Milan is ‘off’, with this potentially hindering another deal. This January transfer window has generally been pretty dull, but Mateta has provided quite a bit of entertainment. Earlier this month, it emerged that the Crystal Palace forward is looking to leave the Premier League club this month as he is in the final 18 months of his contract and wants to play for a Champions League club. Aston Villa and Juventus initially looked to be the leading contenders to sign him, though they stepped…
A court in Belgium has refused to allow defence lawyers in a high-profile drugs case extra time after a forensic expert found that digital evidence obtained by police in a hacking operation against the Sky ECC encrypted phone network and relied on by prosecutors was “unreliable”. The Antwerp Regional Court heard evidence from a British forensic expert that raised new doubts over the digital evidence supplied by Belgian police to prosecute multiple criminal cases linked to a high-profile drugs kingpin, Nordin El Hajjioui, who is accused of importing narcotics through Antwerp. Defence lawyers presented evidence from forensic expert Duncan…
It looks like Grok is still being gross. Elon Musk says his chatbot stopped making sexualized images without a person’s consent, but this is not entirely true. It maybe (and I say maybe) without their consent, but this doesn’t seem to apply to men.A reporter with the organization ran some tests with Grok and found that the bot “readily undresses men and is still churning out intimate images on demand.” He confirmed this with images of himself, asking Grok to remove clothing from uploaded photos. It performed this task for free on the Grok app, via the chatbot interface on…

In May 2019, graphic design platform Canva fell victim to a major cyber security breach in which a threat actor known as Gnosticplayers hacked its database and stole the personal data of over 100 million users, including their usernames, email addresses and bcrypt-hashed passwords. In the wake of this unfortunate incident, the Sydney, Australia-based company ploughed significant investment into cyber security measures, alongside which came a new engagement with credential management service 1Password. By the time Kane Narraway arrived at the firm as head of enterprise security towards the end of 2023, the firm had righted the ship and…
Two-player games are great. Co-op games are great. What about both!? In Sky Team, two players represent a pilot and co-pilot trying to land a plane — and let me tell you, after a couple of rounds, you’ll understand why some people applaud after landing. Each round, you’ll both roll four dice and assign them to tasks in the cockpit. You’ll need to reduce your speed, deploy landing gear, communicate with the control tower and make sure you have enough coffee. My favorite thing about Sky Team is how quickly you and your partner get into a rhythm: by the…
Leeds have identified a 20-year-old Norwegian winger as a deadline day target after agreeing a deal with Manchester United for a new midfielder. The Whites were interested in Strand Larsen, but have been beaten to the punch by Crystal Palace, who have agreed a £48m fee with Wolves for the Norway international. That transfer looks set to go ahead despite Jean-Philippe Mateta’s proposed move to AC Milan from Palace falling through after he failed a medical.
