While the price holds steady at $599, Apple is doubling the base storage to 256GB, a move that effectively adds $100 in value compared with last year’s model. The phone comes in three matte finishes: traditional black and white, and a brand-new Soft Pink that’s already turning heads.
Pro-level power (mostly)
Under the hood, Apple has packed its latest A19 chip, built on a 3-nanometer process.
While this is the same generation as the flagship iPhone 17, there is a small catch for spec-hunters: the 17e uses a “binned” version of the chip. This means it features a 4-core GPU rather than the 5-core version found in the standard models.
However, for the average user, the speed boost will still be massive.
Apple claims the 6-core CPU is up to twice as fast as the iPhone 11. It also introduces the C1X modem, Apple’s own custom cellular tech, which is 30% more power-efficient than previous modems. This efficiency is a big reason why Apple is promising “all-day battery life” despite the more powerful internals.

Tougher glass and the action button
The 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display is now protected by Ceramic Shield 2. According to Apple, this new coating offers “3x better scratch resistance than the previous generation” and helps reduce annoying glare when you’re using the phone outside.
In a move that brings the 17e closer to its “Pro” siblings, Apple has replaced the old mute switch with the customizable Action button. You can now program it to launch your flashlight, open the camera, or trigger specific Apple Intelligence tasks with a single press.
A smarter camera for pet lovers
The camera hardware centers on a 48MP Fusion lens. While it lacks a dedicated zoom lens, it uses the high-resolution sensor to create an “optical-quality” 2x Telephoto crop.
The software is where things get clever.
The iPhone 17e now supports “next-generation portraits,” meaning it can automatically recognize people, dogs, and cats. You can even snap a regular photo and turn it into a portrait with a blurred background later in the Photos app. For video creators, it supports 4K Dolby Vision at 60 fps and features new wind noise reduction to keep your audio clean.

MagSafe finally arrives
One of the most requested features for the “e” series has finally landed: MagSafe. The iPhone 17e now features the magnetic ring on the back, allowing it to snap onto chargers, wallets, and stands.
While it supports 15W Qi2 wireless charging (a jump from the 7.5W on the 16e), it’s worth noting that it doesn’t quite reach the 25W speeds of the flagship iPhone 17. Still, the convenience of the MagSafe ecosystem is a major win for this price point.
Safety and software
The iPhone 17e launches with iOS 26, which introduces “Liquid Glass” design elements and a suite of Apple Intelligence tools. These include Live Translation in Messages and Visual Intelligence, which lets you point your camera at things to search for info or ask questions.
Safety features remain a priority, including messages via satellite, emergency SOS via satellite, roadside Assistance via satellite, and crash detection.
Pricing and availability
The iPhone 17e starts at $599 for 256GB, with a 512GB option available for those who need even more space. Pre-orders open Wednesday, March 4, at 6:15 a.m. PST, with devices landing in stores and on doorsteps starting Wednesday, March 11.
Apple is running its usual trade-in deals. If you’ve got an iPhone 13 gathering dust, you could get up to $599 in credit toward the 17e through carrier offers. Even an iPhone 11 can fetch up to $400 depending on where you trade it in.
The phone will be available in more than 70 countries, including the US, Canada, the UK, Australia, China, India, and Japan.
